Westchester Mural Project

The Visual Landscape is Yours: Murals & civic engagement within the public realm: An exploration of people's relationship to their physical environments within the urban construct.

David Russell returns to talk to the Westchester Rotary club to discuss the conception and creative-process of the Westchester Mural, thought to be the largest public mural on the Westside.

This mural was born from a class at Otis college, where students, through the lens of West Los Angeles's geography and visual landscape, critically analyzed how media and culture within the public realm influences communities.

More about David: David Russell paints elements of the natural world on large-scale walls and canvases, motivated by the visual aesthetic found in mountain and ocean environments across the globe. David graduated from University of Tulsa with a B.F.A. in Painting/Art history and with an M.F.A. from Otis College in Public Practice. He spent one year in Florence, Italy, studying Painting, Art History and Italian Language. Additionally, he pursued a professional teaching license in Art Education and has eight years of K-12 public school teaching experience. Russell’s large format painting background has inspired the creation of his own mural painting company called Idealwallarts. Projects have ranged from hand painted wall signs, custom canvases, to large format pictorials.
