Our 2023 recipient is St. Margaret's Center in Lennox. St. Margaret's Center, a program of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles Inc., has served low-income and unhoused families since 1987. The Center provides a comprehensive range of emergency and supportive services to about 10,000 unduplicated individuals annually in the LAX area, primarily those living in the cities or streets of Lennox and surrounding communities. Learn More about the essential services St. Margaret's Center provides.
Our project will undertake a variety of efforts, including:
- Renovating the lobby area to better serve the hundreds of clients seeking services.
- Creating a safe, private space for mental health and wellness services offered to clients.
- Expanding the staff office spaces to accommodate the coordinators and case managers.
- Renovation of client classrooms used for building skills (citizenship, nutrition, ESL education, and more)
- Re-organization of the grocery donation space, accessed by hundreds of clients each week.
The Rotary Club of Westchester is working to revitalize the facility and help provide an even better environment for those who use and visit St. Margaret’s Center. Our goal is to do a makeover of the facility in April 2023, funded by donations of time, talent, money, and in-kind contributions.

Since 2006, the Rotary Club of Westchester has undertaken a Home Makeover project approximately every two years to benefit a deserving family or neighborhood organization in our community. The Rotary Makeover Project is truly one of those special projects that not only brings the community together but also makes a meaningful difference in the lives of families it benefits. The Rotary Club of Westchester is planning another Makeover project for 2023 – our most ambitious effort yet.
While we have initially focused on a single-family facing challenges and sought to improve their lives by making over their home, we have found that we can impact the lives of even more people by working to make over some key sites that serve our community.
- In 2015, we had success in our efforts to improve the lives of hundreds of seniors who call the Westchester Senior Center “home”
- In 2017, we helped scores of homeless young people at the Safe Place for Youth
- In 2019, we were able to impact scores of community organizations, from performance groups and Scouts, by improving the facilities of the Westchester Townhouse
- In 2021, we enhanced the Emerson Avenue Community Garden at Orville Wright Middle School that serves hundreds of local residents.
